Cover of Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman

Emotional Intelligence

Why I recommend it

This book has a special place in my library. It was one of the key sources for my psychology thesis.

That is why I recommend it not only for the knowledge it offers, but also as a starting point for reflecting on something we often underestimate - how important it is to understand not only what we think, but also what we feel.

Good for: anyone who wants to understand their emotions better, make sense of their reactions and build more aware relationships with others.

About the book

Why do we sometimes know what is right, yet react in a completely different way? Why do some people find it easier to understand and manage their emotions, while others struggle?

In Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman explores the role of emotions in our thinking, behaviour, decisions and relationships. The book invites us to understand that intelligence is not limited to intellectual ability - the capacity to recognise and make sense of emotions also has an important place in our lives.

Why I recommend it

As a mother of two, I find this book exceptionally valuable, useful and, above all, logical.

It offers practical approaches to situations parents face every day and helps us look at communication with children from a different perspective.

What I especially value is its simple but important idea: if we want our children to hear us, we first need to learn to hear them.

For me, this is not so much a book about making a child listen as it is about building relationships in which both sides feel heard and understood.

About the book

How can we communicate with children so they feel heard and understood? And how can we set boundaries without damaging the trust between us?

Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish offer practical approaches to communication between parents and children. Through everyday examples, the book shows how we can recognise and accept children's feelings, handle conflict and encourage cooperation.
